Motivation

Motivation and Ethics Map

      I think a lot of people are motivated by things that mean the most to them. Whatever that may be, if thats money, success or family or whatever it may be. People are driven by something thats pushing them and thats what motivates them to do what they want to do and be the best at. I have learned a lot about photojournalists over this course and what drives them. Some of the things that drive them drive me in my sport as well. Here is a little look at what drives these photojournalists in todays day and age.

    Tim Hetherington is a very unique person and photojournalist for that matter. This was a man that wanted to go behind the scenes of war and show people what was really going on. His main goal was to go behind the scenes to see why violence occurred and what could have been done to try and put an end to violence. That is what drove Tim, unfortunately to his death when he died in a war zone in Libya shooting footage of war. While my ethics map probably looked a little different than Tims. Although I think we might have one very similar word in both are maps. That word would have to be "Truthful". He wanted everyone to see the truth and realness behind the frontlines of war. As I want to be the most truthful person as I can be whether thats to my family, coaches, teammates or whoever it may be. This is a photojournalist I have the utmost respect for ultimately giving his life so people can see the actual parts of war that a lot of people don't see. "This and other work took him around the world, including a year-long study of American fighting forces in Afghanistan from 2007 to 2008 and ultimately to Libya where he was killed in a mortar attack in April 2011." This is a respectable man and everyone should know his name! This man reminds me of the story "Remembering a Friend Lost to Saddams Terror". As Gad Gross died doing his job as well as what he loved. Taking pictures!

Martin Bailey

        Another Photographer that I cam across goes by the name of Martin Bailey. One of the most influential and most famous photographers in the world when it comes to taking pictures of wildlife. For me I really like wildlife so if I was to go in to this industry it would be taking a look and taking pictures of animals. So for us and our ethics some might be very similar and some may be a little different. I think the word that would describe what drives Martin the most would have to be "real". That sits at the top of my map because I want to be real in life and never fake towards anyone or anything. For Martin I think he wants to capture the realness and true beauty of nature at its most pure points. I mean his photos are very interesting and very fascinating to say the least. "Fueled by his passion for nature and travel, and a tireless desire to share his knowledge and artistic vision, Martin is a popular international tour and workshop leader, helping photographers from around the world to experience and capture the wonders of this awesome planet we call home." Martin is raising awareness as well bringing attention to animals that are endangered and that need our help. a quote from the the Gordan Parks Foundation stating “I SAW THAT THE CAMERA COULD BE A WEAPON AGAINST POVERTY, AGAINST RACISM, AGAINST ALL SORTS OF SOCIAL WRONGS. I KNEW AT THAT POINT I HAD TO HAVE A CAMERA.” Martin Bailey is doing the same in his industry raising awareness towards animals and wildlife.

Lucas Gilman

         Lucas Gilman is another photographer that I came across. This man really intrigued me because he shoots sports and nature. And really takes things to the extreme to get some really nice shots. Even though on my map I do not have some of the things that would be on his map I think that we definitely have some similarity in what drives us. "If you want to have your palms sweat or your pulse quicken, look at Gilman’s Instagram page" I feel like this is me in a nutshell. I have been skydiving, diving with sharks, parasailing and things that many people would not want to do. We both push ourselves to the limits for the thrill and his case for the picture. A lot of similarities between our maps I would say!
