Chapter Three

Rule of thirds: The soldier in this picture is off to the left side of the picture leaving the two thirds of the picture to the right empty. This makes it a little more dramatic not knowing whats in front of the soldier. Maybe there is an enemy. Maybe the soldier is running back to base. No one knows besides who was there at the time.

Black or white or Color?: The image is in Black and white giving it more of a retro look. Obviously this picture was taken during the war decades ago so it adds some more to the picture. I personally think it looks better in black and white.

Texture: The picture definitely is not HD like the cameras today. But that is what makes the picture and makes the picture what it is. If it was in HD and not so much blurry it wouldn't make it the same.

Why did I chose the image? I chose the image because I find world War 2 very interesting. Also because the soldier running really stuck out to me. I would like to know who and what this soldier was doing at this time.

Depth of Field: The depth of field in this picture is set on the hockey player Alex Ovechkin. Everyone in the stands and in the background is blurry because the picture is focused on the player. The image directs your attention to the Stanley Cup and the player and uses great depth of field.

What feelings did the image create: The image has so many feelings in it and you can just sense that. The image really captures my attention from the player screaming. You can almost hear the player screaming through the picture. The player with his mouth wide open screaming really depicts all the feeling thats happening in the picture.

Does the image remind me of another image: Obviously every year there is a winner in the National Hockey league. So that means for over 100 years there is pictures of players holding the Stanley Cup. The difference between this picture and let's say decades ago is how new and shiny and colorful it is. I have seen pictures of players from decades ago where everything looks so much different from equipment, lighting, color and much more.

Why did I choose this picture? I Chose this picture because I have been playing and watching hockey all my life. I remember this exact moment when they won the the cup. A very Special and historic time for the Washington Capitals Capturing their first Cup.

In or out of focus: Obviously this picture is not from when Abraham Lincoln was alive but I wanted to think outside of the Box. I wanted to find a picture of him in color. This is him in color and defiantly in focus. Really cool to see him from this perspective.

Contrast high: the contrast here is most definitely high. In every other picture of Abe Lincoln the contrast is low but here he is high resolution and you can see him very well which makes it very unique and different.

Use of Shadows: There is one shadow behind his head. I think that it is there purposely maybe the shadow of a door or maybe even a window. I think this is the case because it is a straight line going directly down.

Why I chose this: I chose this picture because I watched the Documentary one time called "Lincoln". It was all about Abe and his life. He is a very unique guy and I wanted to use him for this assignment.
